Struts2 Hibernate Example
While doing an example web based application, that has Struts2 as MVC Architeture
and persistence object relational mapping is done using Hibernate Framework.
This example will have a UI layer supported by Struts filter for prepare and
execute as the front dispatcher.
Actions are POJO classes having various methods mapped to various actions
and each action uses business object(s). Business object(s) uses persistence
DAO (Data Access Object).
These DAO(s) should have encapsulated all Hibernate related api(s), exception and
expose only basic operations for interaction with persistence mechanism, for
this example, these operations may be save, update, delete etc.
One question requires thorough analysis on ways of using Hibernate Session,
whether per persistence operation (like save/update/delete), or Hibernate Session
per Action method.
By using Struts2hibernatesession plugin, Hibernate Session can be made available
in Action class , by using user defined Hibernate SessionFactory provider class
and source for Hibernate Session in struts.xml descriptor file. In this way a
single Hibernate Session can be used for a complete business action, and is
quite useful in some circumtances/requirements
More ideas and implementation suggestions from visitors are requested.
